50 years of BC BERLIN, 50 YEARS OF CHANGE.

1968 BC Berlin was founded  by the City of West-Berlin as joint venture with private shareholders. Despite, or rather because of, the impermeable wall that surrounded West Berlin, we began to build bridges across borders, and actually still do that today.

Our approach ties new technologies with human capabilities and local insights to power growth, innovation, efficiency, resilience, and advantage. Innovation needs to be aligned with tradition, taking people along and together. Disruptive advancement in technology we direct to be human centered and environmental friendly. Uncertainty in global environments can not be overcome by increased planning, but we assist and create advancement without loosing trackmanage with agile methods. And finally we find ways to gradually replace the depletion of resources by circular approaches.

Challenges were managed and turned into opportunities throughout decades, with BC Berlin as partner. We developed value and innovations for our international, national, private, and public clients. Besides our Berlin based in-house team, we employ international experts, all highly qualified in their area of expertise and for the specifics of the project at hand. Any deliverable is based on well-founded experience, evidence and quality assurance.

1961

Germany divided.
West-Berlin an island.

The former Senator of West-Berlin, Professor Karl Schiller, established already in the early sixties that modern service companies will secure the economic stability of the then isolated city. West Berlin was to become a hub for East-West trade, taking advantage of its favorable geographic location. The Senate of Berlin should support this trade through adding value from engineering and consulting services. Such services would not put additional pressure on the already scarce land resources of the walled city.

1968

BC Berlin-Consult GmbH
is founded

In 1968, his successor, Senator Karl König, pursued this idea further. In Kenia, he met with Consultants from Bad Homburg. "Can you actually implement what you are planning?" As the financial ressources of a consulting company are not sufficient for offering turn-key solutions, he concluded: "That can be done with support of the State of Berlin". Using his excellent contacts to East Berlin, only a few years later BC Berlin developped and commissioned two factories in East-Germany.

From MosCow to BUENOS AIRES

In the following years, BC Berlin developed, designed and commissioned various food-processing factories. The services of BC Berlin ranged from slaughterhouses to pizza production and meat processing in East Germany, Poland, Argentina and Russia.

1980s

Waste Management in
Berlin and worldwide

The technological know-how was to be exported into new markets, with new customers and different cultures. BC Berlin offered consulting services, implemented feasibility and market studies throughout the world, from Xining to Yueyang in China, from Niger to Algeria, from London to Moscow and in other Soviet republics. Waste Management became a new sector, from planning the largest waste transfer station at Gradestraße in West-Berlin to the pyrolysis test plant in Schöneiche, state of the art know-how and technical experiences have ever been the core of our business.

MANAGING THE TRANSITION
IN EASTERN EUROPE

The Nineties brought tremendous change to Europe. Eastern European countries and economies were transformed to cope with the new world order. Economies became market driven, and so the regulatory and legal environment offered by the state. BC Berlin accompanied economic transformation and technological modernisation with its broad experiences in those countries, always combined with its up-to-date technological know-how. Daughter companies such as MC Moskau-Consult AG, RECON GmbH and BVC Berliner Verkehrs Consulting GmbH were founded, partially with partners and still active in the market.

2000

From Waste to ressource management

Environmental considerations become more and more important. The foundation stone of DECON was the start of energy consulting which turned into the development of more sustainable concepts in renewable energy solutions. Environemntal Impact Assessments, Waste Management Planning, advisory services to private companies and governments are still the core competence of BC Berlin.

OUR TEAM GAINS A NEW MEMBER

Frank Eibisch joined BC Berlin in 2004 and became Managing Partner in 2006. His academic background is environmental planning and business administration. Prior to joining BC Berlin, he worked several years for the United Nations, and as consultant for lange infrastructure projects in Germany and abroad.

2014

Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency added to portfolio

The energetic utilisation of waste in RDF or WtE facilities was integral part of the waste management services. In 2014, the expansion of the scope of services began by adding renewable energy projects. Shortly thereafter, energy efficiency came into focus as well. The transition was initiated by a framework contract with the Federal Minister of Economics and Technology for promotion of German climate friendly energy solutions in the MENA region, with projects in Saudi, UAE, Oman, Jordan and Palestine.

Going fully digital

International exposure of our team, local insights during project missions and the need for smooth project management and control: With the availability of the right tools, BC Berlin works digital and agile. Even more after the entire world was homebound due to COVID-19.
Digitisation at BC Berlin goes further than replacing the phone with a webcam: agile and traditional workflows, real-time cooperation tools and digital information management have changed the way of consulting. Transparency replaces ownership, incremental prototyping and proof of concept is competing with the good old feasibility study report.
